Photos from field trips - Saturday to Coldstones; Monday to Scarborough

Over the hills and far away - Out in the back of beyond - flying the flag
On our way to the Saturday field trip - Coldstones Quarry - and it was Yorkshire Day!
Getting kitted out - at least the rain has stopped for a minute Carboniferous limestone
High vis and helmets - who is being monitor? Looking down into the bottom of the quarry
Hargate End, Greenhow and Stump Cross Limestones Collapsed strata near ground surface
Many thanks to Bob and Shirley from Hanson for taking us round Grit stone possibly the Dirt Pot Grit
Walking deeper down into the quarry One of two veins which cross the quarry area
Here we go, picking up mud on our boots to trample all over the bus (the driver was not happy!) Sun Vein - lots of minerals - here we are, collecting samples of galena and fluorite :-)
What is a nuisance for the quarry is a treat for us geologists Possibly the only place with no hedge or trees in the way
Here's a lump salvaged from the pile by the roadway On the way back - managed to snatch this - we had tried with no avail to snap the golf balls on our way there
Yorkshire rocks on show - with maybe the occasional erratic - 9.00 am and the tide is well out
The committee had brought some rocks from home to share Monday morning, early - Scarborough South Bay - waiting for the coaches to extricate themselves from the A64 traffic
It was a beautiful day Ice cream, sunshine and dinosaurs - who could possibly want any more?
Still waiting - view of the Castle (Cayton Bay fault goes behind the Castle) The "Prom" walk - looking at dinoturbation
More rocks Still more rocks

Looking out over South Bay from the Holbeck Hall Hotel landslip - tide coming in Slow stroll back - mid picture is the swimming pool
Heading towards the next ice cream ~ We thought we could see the imprint of a toe
