Trip to Gibraltar - April/May 2008

Out on deck as we left port It had been a long wait for that drink -
The ferry was delayed so we left Portsmouth in the dark Just managed to get a drink in the Posh Bar before it shut at midnight
Lovely blue sky but a bit fresh Very distinctive towers
Not a lot of activity on deck - a bit of uppy/downy Ah!  Here we are in Spain - this is Lerma, near Burgos
There was also snow on the mountains at Granada Another lovely sunny day
Snow on the mountain tops near Madrid.  Traffic heavy -  Gib at last!  Over the steps and on to the border
We managed to find out about the Grand Hotel and New Mole Barracks Cat and Bob with their shopping
Garrison Library, where we did some research This is where the old Grand Hotel was - on the left (now Barclays Bank)
Webcam at the ready Spike is looking after my rings
Cat is on line - who is she talking to?  (Well, not me!) Isn't Spike lovely?
Palm trees and orange trees in the courtyard A lot of building going on
View from Cat and Gav's balcony - Moorish Castle just visible Catalan Bay - can you see Bob on the beach?  And the Caleta Palace, where we had lunch
The sparrows raided the crisps from the next table This time we could see Africa very clearly - and there's a cruise ship just leaving on the right
Little friend on the terrace at the Caleta Onwards and upwards - the view from Moorish Castle
I remember walking down these steps I met a chap, he came to Gib in 1956 with the navy and had stayed
Looking for New Mole Barracks - or evidence of them -  Europa Point lighthouse, Atlas Mountains behind
Looking back at Gib from almost in Africa A lot of them were swimming together in pairs
Off to look for dolphins Found the dolphins!  I got even better shots on film
They didn't wave back Sunset
Ahoy there, sailor! Walking back across the border
Nothing to declare Spectacular rocks
Walking over the runway to Spain Paso Despeņaperros - stunning scenery and treacherous road
Some of the fellow passengers had some nifty vehicles Leaving Santurzi harbour
680 miles from La Linea - here we are at Santurzi, waiting for the ferry Goodbye, Bilbao - till the next time!
More similar rocks all along the coast We managed to see quite a few whales
Lovely rocks as we left the harbour! Ah - this must be a fin whale blowing out!
Suffering this trip, sore eyes - possibly from the seasick patches - never again! Look how deep the water is!
And here's me, to prove that I was there, not just behind the camera all the time Bob reflected in the screen - information which is passed on to the Ferrybox website
